Last call to register for Sayon’s Intermediate/Advanced class in Newton MA at 7pm tonight!
After a GREAT wrap on the West coast Sayon is ready to drum with East coast drummers and friends. Maine here he comes! We’ll be drumming on djembes and dounouns, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and adding dance to the Sunday afternoon drumming class of the traditional Kassa rhythm. Get ready for joy!
This June Sayon will be offering TWO West African Drumming & Dance workshops! One on the West Coast (click here for West Coast details/registration) and one on the East Coast (click here for East Coast details/registration). Registration is now open!
A unique class that brings the art forms of Sayon’s culture together.
Journey to an African village with Sayon Camara of Guinea and his wife Lev in a workshop that engages participants in the drumming, music, song, story, traditional language and dance from the place where Sayon delighted in his childhood and served as djembefola (one who plays the djembe drum). All ages and skill levels welcome. No experience necessary. We will work at the level of those in the group. Plan to experience joy and the music and dance traditions of a very different culture. Village music, song and dance is simple and Sayon is a patient and skillful teacher.

We had a wonderful African Culture Class: Music, Drumming, Song and Dance of the Malinke of Guinea, focusing on the piece of music, Wadaba. Just like an African village! Thank you to all participants who tried a lot of new things and had fun doing it.

Put wings on your feet tonight at dance class with Lev backed by the irresistible drumming of Sayon Camara and Landaya Ensemble. She will be teaching Malinke dances as they were taught to her by her teacher in Guinea, the fluid and phenomenal dancer, Saran Conde. 6:30 pm – 7:30 pm at Artistree in Woodstock, VT. On Monday November 14th, Sayon will appear as the guest artist with Landaya, a west African ensemble that plays traditional music from his homeland as part of Plymouth State University’s International Week in Plymouth NH. Performance is at 11:30 am – lunchtime.
